Hey! I’m Charlie Jones, a personal trainer here in Milton Keynes, and if you’re a busy mum or woman trying to juggle everything during the school holidays — I see you.
When the kids are off school, life can feel full-on. Days get longer, routines go out the window, and suddenly your own health and fitness gets pushed aside. But here’s the thing: staying active during the holidays doesn’t have to be hard — and it can actually make life a whole lot easier.
Let’s talk about why it’s worth keeping up with your training and how to make it work, even when the kids are around 24/7.
Why Training During the Holidays Is Actually a Good Idea
1. It’s Your Time to Recharge
When your day revolves around everyone else, it’s easy to forget to take care of yourself. But even just 30 minutes of movement can make a huge difference. You’ll feel calmer, more energised, and ready to tackle whatever the day throws at you. Which is often chaos.
2. It Keeps You in a Routine (Sort of)
Holidays can throw your usual routine out the window, and that’s totally normal. But keeping one or two things consistent — like your workouts — gives your week a bit of structure. It’s something just for you, and that matters. Training is the cornerstone to other habits too like sleep & nutrition so it will only have a positive domino effect.
3. Your Kids Are Watching
When they see you making time to move and look after your body, they learn that it’s important too. Even better? You can get them involved — it doesn’t have to be serious or perfect.
How to Fit Training In (Without Losing Your Mind)
Here are a few simple ways to stay active when life is full-on:
✅ Save The Thinking
The last thing you want to be thinking about is what you need to do, if the gym is even going to be quite enough. Signing up to CJPT (shameless small plug), all you need to do it book your session and turn up.
✅ Find Your Child Free Pockets
Early mornings or evenings can be golden. If your partner is home, kids are at friends or at a club, that’s your time. You don’t need to train every day — two or three times a week is enough to feel good and stay on track.
✅ Get the Kids Involved
This doesn’t mean dragging them into burpees — but you can go for a walk, do a fun workout in the garden, or stretch together indoors. It’s a great way to burn off their energy too.
✅ Be Flexible
Sometimes when you do decided to train, life (kids) will throw a curve ball. One workout missed or reseduled will not break your results. Looking for quicker alternatives such as run or workout from our private members app (shameless plug again).
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to “pause” your fitness just because it’s the holidays. You just need to switch up how you do it. Training doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to happen.
And honestly, when you keep even a small bit of that time for yourself, it makes everything else feel more manageable. You’ll have more energy, more patience, and feel better in your own skin.
