School holidays bring joy and excitement for kids, but they can often disrupt mums' fitness
routines. However, with some planning and understanding, it's possible to maintain a healthy
lifestyle while spending quality time with the family. Here are some practical tips to help
parents stay active during the kids' school holidays:

Involve the Kids: Turn fitness into a family affair by involving the kids in physical activities.
Plan fun outdoor games, bike rides, or nature walks that everyone can enjoy. This not only
keeps you active but also creates cherished family memories. Also a great opportunity to
show your kids the value of training. Monkey see, monkey do.
Morning Workouts: Start your day with a quick workout before the kids wake up. Early
morning exercises can be rejuvenating, giving you a burst of energy to tackle the day ahead.
Home Workouts: If going to the gym becomes challenging, opt for home workouts. At CJPT I provide access to our HQ program for those who can't come but still have access to a gym. Failing this, I also provide short, high intensity home based workouts for our members to do. All located inside our app.
Active Outings: Choose holiday outings that involve physical activity. Go for a hike, visit an
amusement park, or hit the beach for a day of swimming and beach games.
Set Realistic Goals: Adjust your fitness expectations during the holidays. Focus on
maintaining your routine rather than trying to achieve significant fitness milestones.
Parent-Buddy System: Team up with other parents in the neighbourhood or from the gym to support each other's fitness goals. Plan group workouts or take turns watching the kids while the others exercise. Sounds crazy, but so is dealing witht he kids 24/7. So pick your crazy.
Short but Effective: When time is limited, opt for high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Short
bursts of intense exercises can be just as effective as longer workouts. In your strengths
training, prioritise your big patterns of squats, deadlifts, overhead pressing. These will give
more return on your time.
Stay Hydrated and Eat Well: Remember to drink enough water and make healthy food choices during the holidays. A balanced diet is essential to maintaining overall health and energy levels. Remember it's a numbers game when it comes to energy balance. If movement is down, so should your total calorie intake. Quick fixes such as no liquid calories can help with this without making drastic habitual changes. Your nutrition is still a controllable factor in this period. Often this is what takes the biggest hit as all structure is gone so play kind to yourself and manage everything the best you can.
Remember, staying fit during school holidays isn't about perfection. It's about finding ways to
incorporate physical activity into the given situation. It's vital to support yourself in order for
you to support others. By being flexible and creative, you as an parent can set a positive
example for kids and demonstrate the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle
throughout the year. So, embrace the school holidays as an opportunity to bond, make
memories, and stay fit as a family!
Happy summer holidays!
